The Avention representation of a corporate family mirrors the way the company in question represents its own tree to the outside world. This can be both legal and marketing linkages.
There are three variations of corporate family breakdowns: regional, business type/product line, or a combination of the two. Combinations are the most common type and are shown in the examples below.
Avention family trees have an Ultimate Parent which is always at the top of the hierarchy. Intermediate Parents are next in the order and are any entity that has units and reports to another parent entity. The Intermediate Parent can be both a Subsidiary and a Division. Avention's information providers have many different entity types, these different types are translated to an Avention standard, and following are the most common entity types:
- Ultimate Parent
In order to connect an organization to a tree, vendors who support linkage data provide linkage information that Avention leverages. In most cases multiple vendors support a company record resulting in more than one vendor supporting family linkage data. In these cases Avention applies a data linkage vendor hierarchy in order to choose the preferred vendor information. This hierarchy is based on data availability and coverage, internal research, and customer feedback.
In addition to the programmatic approach to building corporate family structure Avention has dedicated resources applied to the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of corporate family structures. The work that this group performs is published to Avention products twice a week and includes the following:
- Daily review of news and articles from over 2,500 news sources related to corporate ownership. This results in a review of hundreds of articles a day that identify corporate structure changes that are applied to our corporate family structures. In addition to current changes Avention also provides highlights within its corporate family report of upcoming and pending corporate structure changes, including mergers, divestitures, bankruptcies and more with a link to related tagged news stories.
- Regular review of the corporate family structures of top Avention companies. Dedicated resources perform an annual review on the top global companies within Avention products.
- Client feedback process. Every feedback submitted by a client related to corporate family structures is thoroughly researched by a Content Specialist in order to properly update family trees based on client input.
